Kitesurfing in Indonesia

During the mornings we typically got up around 6:30am to check the surf which was around the 2-3ft mark at the start of our trip. On a good day you would get glassy conditions in the mornings which is quite a sight by itself and after lunch the wind would settle in to kite the same place you were surfing earlier on. We only had a few days to warm up with these conditions as the swell was building fast. At some point it became clear to us, there was some solid sessions to be had.

Traveling in Indonesia

I recently left on a surf trip to the islands of Indonesia. My friend Daniel scored good conditions in September last year so we teamed up for another trip. This time of the year you can get solid winds and late winter swells traveling up the coast of Australia and finally hitting somewhere in Indo. While exploring the islands we had a 3 week window for the swell to arrive and to get to know the Indonesian culture. The locals have welcomed us with much care, heaps of smiles and in return we could only give them all our respect.

In The Shaping Room

There is something about making your own surfboard. Maybe it's the idea, the shaping act or the first time you get to ride your very own board. If you are a builder and surfer you must have at least thought about it at some point. Time and place was right for me and I needed a special board to attach to my new Moses hydrofoilREAD MORE...

Night session

The wind is blowing chilly as the winter has finally arrived in Western Australia. When I turned up on my home-spot the conditions reminded me very much of summer days, except the thick wetsuit I was wearing. The wind was southerly, around 20 knots and a new moon low tide made the water nice and flat. READ MORE

On the road

I've been doing several roadtrips over the last couple of months, following the south western coastline of Australia. It was mainly my partner Marion, Dan, Alex and myself, with our Van's packed up to enjoy unexplored beaches and campfire storie's... READ MORE

How To: 313

The 313 was one of my first handle passes on my switch riding side. It's a railey, followed by a frontside 360 rotation, passing the bar in the air and landing heel side. If you are already doing railey's to blind in regular, the 313 on your switch side will come easier as its the same rotation. Let me take you trough a few personal key elements I figured along the way... READ MORE

Session at the Pond

The Pond is the place where we are spending many sessions this season. It's a lagoon in Perth with a horseshoe shape and an open side to the sea. If you are regular footed or like to do switch tricks like me, this is a great place to ride. I was on the new Hadlow Wakestyle Board (Flexifoil) which is great fun. Going upwind is easy (with or without fins), it's light and has a strong pop. SEE THE SHOTS

Sharing waves with Mark Moore

Summer is here, the days are hot and the wind is pumping in the Southern Hemisphere. It was time to catch up with Mark Moore, the wave wizard and get some inspiration. I was out on the new Flexifoil Shiva wave kites, 9m that day, enjoying a few powerful turns in Perth's small waves.

The Big Pull

When the wind blows 35knots there is only one way I want to go...
I'm carrying as much speed as I can, digging my board edge into the water, eyes fixed on my take off. When the 6m kite pulls me out of the water I remain in control of my altitude, choosing the moment I'm sending it in for a loop. READ MORE!
