KGB

is the name of the trick that I've been focusing the most over the last couple of months. It is based on a unhooked bankroll, where you stop the rotation half way through the trick, then counter rotate to pass the bar behind your back and land. If you are unfamiliar with the KGB family, enlarge the sequence below and analise the individual photos. READ MORE...

New Video: Flo's morning session

Here we are with a new video shot in Perth. Many sessions went down like this or similar in Australia. A constant juggling act between the things you have to do and the ones you want to.

BIG THANKS for making this possible goes out to:

Flexfoil Freestyle Clinics

I recently started running freestyle clinics in Perth for everybody who wants to improve their skills and step up their riding. I saw many people out there looking for tuition and basically no professional help around. That's why I came up with the idea to push the riding level of my community on a non for profit base. Progression

Progression is an ever-present part of our sport, whether you're just starting or your part of the old-school, the progression never stops. Although you can never do all the tricks in the book, it still keeps many of us coming back for more. When I started kiting I just wanted to ride and enjoy this to the fullest. After I learned the first tricks it slowly started to take more and more, to fulfil me with that feeling of satisfaction. Where I'm standing now it already takes a different approach to the beginning. This is why I want to take you through my progression and show you a few things for your daily routine...

Switch Sessions

Lately I'm getting a bit more into my switched riding side for new tricks. I'm lucky enough to have excellent conditions here in Perth, Australia with Safety Bay and Woodmans Point. At spots like these the only limitation to what you can do is your own imagination. This is why I constantly have to remind myself to go for it a 100%.

To get back to switch tricks; most of us naturally start of doing tricks to our regular riding side. This is what feels most comfortable and after learning a trick succesfully we progress to the next one, same riding direction. I guess it's in the back of your head to try it to your switched side but mostly we stick to what we know best.

Next time you are out there you'll have the chance to bust out both sides. It's well worth it and mostly you'll get highly rewarded just by the feeling of overcoming your fear. On the other hand it helps you become a more complete rider and learn new stuff.

Here is one on the way... these shoots were taken on my switched side, doing Raileys2blinds, Front2blinds, 313's and NIS. As I went for my very first NIS (Non Inverted Slim Chance), half way through the rotations, stopping, extending one leg to turn direction, I felt this moment of pure stoke!
To my suprise I landed clean but lost the bar (for reason being kite too high). But this feeling, up there, going for it for the very first time, man, it still lasts...

Meet the Team

I recently cought up with Caroline, the Lady behind Elemental Surf and her team of Instructors. Caroline is one of my biggest supporters since I started with Flexifoil and she has also introduced me to the brand and gear. Her kiteboarding and stand up paddle school is well established in Perth, WA and has 5 motivated Instructors operating at woodman's point or from where ever the wind may be.

The school is highly flexible with a large trailer, carrying all the equipment needed for a successful kiteboarding lesson and that for always present on the best locations. Meeting the team and riding with them was cool and definitely left a smile on my face. There is Jeremy the main instructor supported by Tim, Giorgio, Kay and Kenny. Kenny is also running the stand up paddle lessons on the Swan river in easy learning conditions.

On the Hadlow ID

I've been riding the Flexifoil Hadlow ID's for the last couple of months and thought I'll do a personal wrigt up on these kites. You'll find it in the GEAR SECTION of my homepage aswell as information to the Flexifoil Hadlow Freestyle board.
What can I say? As a Teamrider you probably expect me to say the kites are great?!? All I can say is this, I chose Flexifoil as a brand because I believed their products were beyond what I have seen so far. Also I believed that they would suit my riding style and support me throughout my personal progression in kiteboarding. I am happy to say that my expectations are fullfilled and that I'm enjoying these kites a lot!

I wish you guys a great start into the new year and a successfull, windy and healthy 2013!

The woodies crew organised a BBQ with music and Santa Claus brang the wind for an afternoon full of laughter and good times. Everybody was busting out, enjoying the warm water and each others company. Check out Santa and his helpers...
