surfing the north shore

When there is no Wind near you might score a little surfing session.
This is what I thought the other day while driving to the north airport of Tenerife. Lately I’m getting a lot into it and this winter there is going to be nice swell for sure. So we went to “Bajamar” which is located in the north shore of Tenerife. In this corner you have huge green cliffs on one side & the sea on the other. We always say it’s like Hawaii, going down there.

You can choose between various waves along the beach but its all packed with huge  stones. I went in & played for a while at the main spot. Then we decided to go over to a hidden sand beach and check out the location. It’s quite hard to get there with no path to follow as it is protected from the outside. But once there, it’s nice, fine sand and only a small number of people. We were pretty lucky with the conditions as there was a nice beach brake rolling in. Of course we went for the waves. Check out some material we took together…

looking for new spots

Living on an island doesn’t mean you can go kiting everywhere.
This is why we constantly look around in hope to find “the secret spot” around the corner. In Tenerife the trade winds blow 240 days/ a year from north-east. This suits perfectly for the main spot El Medano (side onshore) & also la Tejita (side offshore). Both spots are well known, so we took a trip around the island too explore other corners with no crowds. Check out some fotos…

I bet you didn’t know that Tenerife & the canary’s are one of the best places to go kiteboarding, all year long. You can measure your self in different conditions (waves, flat-water, chop) & for sure strong winds, starting 15-40knots. This for, you might not always get that expected freestyle or wave condition. But if you go with the flow you can experience a lot of styles, riding different boards, making you a strong rider!

Unfortunately this particular day we had no wind. The only way to get stoked was to drop into this point-braking wave in Puerto de la Cruz & go bodysurfing. Alex & me went for it and had a good one catching some rollers! After this we went on & guess what…???...found an old monster leguan. This animal was so amazing, just sitting there, soaking up the sun. It was really calm so we touched his back, which it enjoyed. In the end we drove west till we reached the most far point of Tenerife, easy to find for the big lighthouse. It’s an amazing place & from here you can draw a straight line, 6112km offshore, ending up in Miami, USA. Here we watched the sunset. The sky was coloured in warm red as well as the huge cliffs that were surrounding us.
One day is not enough to find out everything, for sure not. And while I write this my friends Alex, Sascha & Robert are still out there driving and searching. Were gonna keep an eye on this and let you know!

The Beginning

Welcome everybody to my kiteblog – the way to get stoked!
As you see kiteboarding is my passion and this for I moved to Tenerife 2 years ago, looking for good kite conditions, all year long.
In my blog I want to share my experiences along with fotos & videos to show you what kiteboarding means to me. I want to take you to several spots and also show you my kiteboarding progression. Currently I am kiteboarding for 3 years, training for my personal goals & also for upcoming competitions.
We had some good condition the other day with perfectly flat water & sunshine in my hometown El Medano. Also I was in good company on the water with my friends Alex, Sascha, Robert & Luga. Everybody was well powered on 9 & 12m² and in knee-deep water we could make some shots with the cam. Take a look at some photos they took and stay tuned for an upcoming video...
